Meet The Crew!

Sheila Sutton – Owner and ‘Head Honcho’

Hey there my name is Sheila, I own and operate The Spotted Spa Retreat. I opened my door in the fall of 2003 and have never regretted a minute of it since. Okay, honestly there has been the odd minute here and there…I can’t lie.

I left college in Ontario with a diploma in Architectural Technology and started my career designing engineered floor systems for a structural engineering company in Langley. Shortly after moving to Kelowna I started working for a local veterinary clinic in the hopes of acquiring more hands on experience with dogs “at their worst” and also began construction of the first Spotted Spa. Then, after a one month trip to Europe, I opened the doors to my dream on September 20, 2003.

When I first decided that I wanted to open a dog daycare and eventually expand to a kennel I wanted to incorporate my Dalmatian, Bacardi, in to the name of the business. So needless to say that is how I came up with The Spotted Spa Retreat. In my logo it is actually the side of Bacardi that was used to make the spot pattern. So even though he left me for the Rainbow Bridge in the Spring of 2007 he is always with us at the Spa.

Hiking with dogs and running the business are how I spend the brunt of my days but I do love to stay busy so I am also involved in a few local organizations. So where and when will you find me?

On any given day of the week I may be driving the K9 Shuttle, greeting guests, cleaning the spa, or tending to the never-ending yard or paperwork for the Spa. Outside of the Spa I am the secretary and hall administrator for the Ellison Community Hall (so if you’re planning a wedding I have the reception site for you!), I am the scheduler for the Kelowna Women’s Soccer League, as well as am a player and assistant referee within the league. I also train three times per week for powerlifting competing at the provincial level and am  a member of the Ellison Volunteer Fire Department. If you can’t find me doing any of the above and it’s the summer I am likely cruising around on my motorcycle or sitting in a boat out on the lake.

Jessica Kardosh – ‘Assistant Head Honcho’

Hello! My name is Jessica, I am the manager of Doggytopia. I was born in Vancouver and moved to Summerland at the young age of 4, and spent most of my life there. Ever since I was younger, my family said I had a passion for animals. After graduating high school I took 3 years off to travel and experience the world! In doing so I realized animals were my true passion. My 4-year-old husky, Lucy and my rescue cats, Steve and Rick, are my family; I love them to absolute bits. On the odd day that I’m not at Doggytopia, I’m either spending time with friends or somewhere outdoors! I also travel around B.C. working for a photography company; photography is another one of my passions. June of 2017 I graduated from The Centre Of Arts and Technology with my Veterinary Assistant Diploma; through that I gained so much knowledge in all aspects of animals, whether it be nutrition, dental, or animal anatomy. I also earned my Pet First Aid. Shortly after I was offered a position at Doggytopia and have been loving it ever since!
Looking forward to seeing you and your furry friends!

Sabrina Fowlow – ‘Little Honcho’

My name is Sabrina, and I was born and raised in beautiful Kelowna. I have two cats plus a stray lovingly name Gerard Butler. I as well have a senior dog and my partner in crime Koda who I take everywhere with me – from a week long camping trip, to a float down the channel, to a hike up Big White in the snow. As a kid I’ve always had a passion for animal welfare, believing one day I would grow up to be a veterinarian. After graduating high school I’ve come to realize that my true calling is for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. In 2016 I attended the Veterinary Hospital Assistant program here in Kelowna to learn the fundamentals for feline/canine care. Working at Doggytopia is my first step in a better understanding of behaviours and different personalities of the canine kingdom. I love coming to work everyday to slobbery kisses and wagging tails!

Jessica Veitch – ‘Little Honcho’

Hi! I’m Jessica! Dogs have always been a huge part of my life. I grew up in Lake Country on a farm with dogs – two chow-cross brothers who looked after things outside and always at least one small breed inside. My first dog that was completely mine, Tigger, solidified my love for animals. He was an outgoing Maltese and just passed away in 2016. I’ve had guinea pigs, ferrets, dogs, cats, and also love horses, especially minis. Right now our home is shared with Bella the Pug, Palo the Chihuahua, and Melvin the Bernese Mountain Dog.

My career in pet care began when I was 15. I worked in the fish department at Petcetera in Kelowna and soon became a groomer. I continued on when the store became PetSmart and was there for a total of ten years. I am so pleased that Sheila and the group at Doggytopia & Spotted Spa have invited me to their pack. I run my own business called The Dog Groomery inside Doggytopia and offer grooming services for all dog breeds. I also work with the daycare staff. I love my job!
